Eyelid Surgery
Eyes are the mirror of the soul and
the focal point of one's entire face. Undoubtedly, they can make you look young,
attractive and vibrant or prematurely aged, unattractive and dull.
Paula,
A NEW LOOK'S patient, described her eyes
as her best feature. An effervescent, outgoing woman in her early 40's, she
was particularly concerned with her appearance since she was in constant contact
with the public at her place of employment. "When Dr. Thompson did my lower
eyelids two years ago, I was extremely satisfied with the results. I received
a lot of compliments about looking more youthful and refreshed and best of all
... there was no scarring." In the standard lower eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty),
an incision is made across the lower eyelid just beneath the eyelashes, and
then out along the laugh line past the outer comer of the eye. The skin under
the lower lid is elevated and fat pockets behind the muscle and excess skin
are removed.
Paula, however, had a Transconjuctival Blepharoplasty. This procedure calls
for the removal of fat pockets but not excess skin. The lower lid is pulled
down and small incisions are made on the inside of the lid so that fat may be
removed. The end result is that patients get rid of the "bagginess"
and puffiness of the lid. Although this procedure does not tighten the skin,
very few patients will require a subsequent operation to remove excess skin.
"Recently, I started
noticing excess skin on my upper lids. With my droopy and puffy
eyes, I had the appearance of an angry, tired person. Although
I wanted to have my upper eyelids done, my main concern was that
I look natural. Since Dr. Thompson did such a great job on my
lowers, I decided to go to him again.
At
the initial consultation, Dr. Thompson told me what I could expect
from my surgery. He drew a picture of what my eyes would look
like and he carefully listened to my concerns. With that handled,
we scheduled a surgery date.
Two days later I drove to Dr. Thompson's office to have some of
the stitches removed. Day five, the remaining stitches were removed.
I healed very quickly and within seven days I was able to wear
make-up and go back to work. Everyone thought I was away on vacation.
They thought I looked rested and I received compliments galore.
I had eyeliner tattooing
done at the same time as my surgery. It seemed like a great idea
to have permanent eyeliner. It meant less time applying my makeup
and an opportunity for my eyes to always look well defined. I
have oily skin and my problem had been that within a couple hours
after applying eyeliner it would smear and disappear and I would
look sloppy and tired. Now, at the end of a day, my eye makeup
looks as fresh as it did when I put it on. I believe the tattooing
was a positive improvement to my appearance."
