Facelifts
Nowhere does aging leave its imprint
more noticeably than in the face. Sun exposure, smoking, diet, and alcohol consumption
all contribute to facial wrinkling.
A
facelift can improve, or perhaps eliminate, facial wrinkles and sagging
skin of the face and neck.
THE PROCEDURE
A facelift is more than just
tightening of loose skin. An incision is usually made behind the hairline at
the temples and extends around the ear and into the hairline behind the ear.
During surgery, the skin is separated from the deeper tissues and pulled up
toward its original, more youthful position. Often the deeper tissues beneath
the skin are also lifted, and the muscles in the neck are tightened. The excess
skin is removed, and the skin edges are carefully sculpted to fit smoothly into
the scalp and around the ear. The degree of improvement after a facelift will
be determined by such factors as age, heredity, bone structure, various individual
characteristics of the skin, and personal habits of the person. A successful
facelift can make a person look good for their age. It can transform sagging,
tired looking cheeks, jowls, and neck into a face that has a more rested and
youthful appearance.
AFTER A FACELIFT
Since the
point of having a facelift is to look better, most men and women consider facial
surgery merely to be the first step to improving their appearance.
After
surgery is a perfect time to look at your overall appearance, and make
any needed changes. Good nutrition helps you feel and look better. It
also promotes healing and keeps excess fat from accumulating in your face and
neck. This is also a good time to update your wardrobe. Try colors and styles
that you haven't worn before. A more powerful, up- to-date wardrobe will enhance
your rejuvenated appearance.
Nothing "dates" a person more than makeup. Experiment with makeup
techniques and colors that are more vibrant than those you have been using.
Also, try a new hairstyle that's becoming and hides any scars from your surgery.
Your hairdresser can help you choose a suitable style, and perhaps a new color,
to go with your "New Look." You'll feel great knowing that you look
as attractive as you possibly can. Feeling great also makes you look great.
