Eyelid FAQ's

Q- What is Blepharoplasty (eyelid) surgery?
A. Blepharoplasty is an operation designed to remove excess skin and/or fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids.

Q- Are there risks involved in Blepharoplasty (eyelid) surgery?
A. As with any operation, the risks of infection, excessive scarring, and unsatisfactory result - even death - exist. However, with Blepharoplasty and most cosmetic operations, the complication rate is very low. We will discuss potential risks and complications at the time of your consultation.

Q- Is Blepharoplasty painful?
A. Most Blepharoplasty operations are done under anesthesia, so you are unaware of pain during the procedure. Although individual threshold of pain varies, most patients can expect one to two days of postoperative discomfort, which is usually mild and easy controlled with oral medication.

Q- How long is the recovery time?
A. Most patients may go home within an hour after their eyelid surgery. Some may prefer to rest and recuperate at an aftercare facility. The majority of patients will feel comfortable in social encounters in a week or two.

Q- Will there be any scarring?
A. When excess fat is removed from the lower eyelids through incisions inside the eyelid, there will be no visible scars. When excess skin is removed from the upper or lower eyelids, there will be minimal scars, which are hidden in natural skin fold lines.

Q- How long will my Blepharoplasty last?
A. Although the natural aging process continues following surgery, the benefits of eyelid surgery often last 10-15 years or more.
