Rhinoplasty FAQ's

Q- What is Rhinoplasty ?
A. Rhinoplasty can be either an aesthetic nasal surgery, or (a re-shaping of the nose to improve its appearance) or reconstructive nasal surgery (to correct birth defects and disfigurements resulting from injury or to relieve nasal obstruction due to an internal deformity).

Q- What is the first thing I should do when considering Rhinoplasty?
A. An office consultation is the first step to take. We'll talk about why you want surgery and what results you can expect. As in all instances where aesthetic surgery is considered, emotional stability is a key factor. You should keep in mind that the desired result is improvement not perfection. While Rhinoplasty can re-shape your nose and improve your appearance, thus renewing your self confidence, it cannot re-shape your life.

Q- What happens next?
A. After an examination, I will be able to determine if you are a good candidate for surgery and if the procedure will meet your expectations. I'll describe what to expect in terms of the changes in your nose resulting from the surgery. We'll discuss the techniques and anesthesia to be used, as well as the possible risks as well as complications associated with this procedure.

Q- What are some of the changes that can be made to a nose?
A. Aesthetic rhinoplasty is typically performed to reduce the overall size of the nose, re-shape a tip, remove a nasal hump, or improve a poor angle between the nose and the upper tip. In some patients, it's necessary to add tissue in order to improve the contour. One or all of these changes may be made during a single operation. During the consultation we will determine the extent of your desired changes, and I will then advise you on what is appropriate.

Q- Can a Rhinoplasty be done at any age?
A. In most instances, the earliest recommended age for an aesthetic rhinoplasty is the mid-teen years when the nose has attained 90 percent growth. In older individuals health, rather than age, is a determining variable.
